An RDS CAL is a license that allows users or devices to connect to a Windows Server. In this blog post, we'll teach you how to install and setup a Remote Desktop License Server (RDS CALs) on Windows Server 2016.
To proceed, launch the Server Manager and navigate to the Add Roles and Features tab.
In the "Before You Begin" section, click Next.
Choose Role based and then click Next
Choose “ Select a server from the server pool” then click on Next. You may also select the option Choose a virtual hard drive.
Click on the role Remote Desktop Services then Next.
Leave the Features section by default. Click on Next
Once again, click Next.
Now, add the Remote Desktop Session Host and Remote Desktop Licensing role services, then click Next.
Choose the option Restart the destination server automatically if required then click on Install
Click Close once you're finished.
Launch “Server Manager”, Go to Tools, select Remote Desktop Services, and then choose Remote Desktop Licensing Manager:
In the RD Licencing Manager, open the server area, then click Activate Server.
The prompt "Welcome to the Activate Server Wizard" will pop up. then press the Next.
Click Next after selecting Automatic as the connection method.
Click Next after entering your Full Name and the name of your company.
Click Next after entering your email addresses and corporate details. Click Next after entering your email address and company details. Because this is one of the optional Information fields, you can also leave it blank.
To continue, click Next when the Install Licenses operation is completed.
Now, right-click the name of your server and choose Install licenses
A popup titled "Welcome to the Install Licenses Wizard" will show up. Then, hit “Next”
Press the Next after selecting the license program License package (Retail Purchase).
Click Add and Next once you've typed your license key
The RDS CAL is now up and running.
